The Japanese Chin are probably one of the most unique toy dog breeds ever created. They are not as popular as they were in the early part of the 20th century but what special little dogs they are.

They are sensitive, intelligent and have a very cat-like personality. Chins have a great sense of humor and can be tricksters and manipulators. After all, they are royalty!

Despite the name, many believe the Japanese Chin probably originated in Korea or China and was later developed in Japan. The breed became a favorite of the Japanese Court , and was often offered as a royal gift. A pair of these dear little companion dogs was given by Commodore Perry to Queen Victoria in 1853 when he returned from his historic mission to open Japan to world trade. The breed was renamed by the AKC in 1977; earlier it was registered as the Japanese Spaniel. Regardless of name, this breed has always been, first and foremost, a companion dog.

The Chin, unlike many toy breeds, do not have a reputation for being snappy or short tempered. They will let you do almost anything to them, however, they may pout about it later. :-)

Japanese Chins are strictly house dogs and while they are pretty easy going, and accepting on the whole, they may not do well with families with small children. Chins can be very delicate, and can easily be injured when children try to play with them. The Japanese Chin is mostly a lap dog, who is meant to be catered too, and doted on. They enjoy peace and quiet, time with their owners, and of course the occasional rip around the house.

Health Problems
Chins are subject to eye problems, patella luxation and heart problems.

My Chins are all CERF tested and OFA Patella tested. My goal is to breed for show Quality Chins to the standard that are free from genetic health problems.

I am very proud of this breed of dog, and I am very pleased to be owned by a very special one!

I am always happy to help any one looking for a puppy, or who maybe interested in one of our own. We specialize in Red and white Chin, however, we do have black and white as well.
